Preston Mosque

Preston Mosque is conceived as a contemporary symbol of coexistence, redefining the mosque as an open civic landmark that welcomes both Muslims and non-Muslims. The design transforms a cored cylinder into a continuous helical form, creating an accessible architectural journey organized around three key experiences: explore, reach, and pray. An outdoor loop rises gently to a series of terraces that offer panoramic views and host social, cultural, and festive community events. An indoor loop connects educational, administrative, and multipurpose spaces, fostering dialogue, learning, and collaboration. At the heart of the building sits a serene, light-filled prayer hall crowned by a transparent dome that opens worshippers to the sky. Fully ramped circulation ensures universal accessibility, while alternating solid and open bands maximize daylight and reduce energy demand. A green walkable roof and minimalist minaret reinforce the mosque’s role as a landmark of openness, sustainability, and shared civic identity.
