Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Doha, Qatar

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs complex is conceived as a series of interconnected departmental buildings organized around dedicated courtyards. These departments are unified by a monumental colonnade that acts as the social spine of the building, providing orientation, interaction, and a strong civic identity. The masterplan carefully positions the building to create welcoming reception gardens, including a formal public entrance plaza and a secure VIP garden with sea views. Three distinct entrances—public, VIP, and ministerial—are clearly articulated through carved courtyards and shading canopies, reinforcing functional zoning and hierarchy. The colonnade, inspired by Islamic architectural principles, forms a luminous central landmark visible from both inside and outside the complex. Its orientation and sectional shifts optimize daylight penetration while minimizing heat gain, complemented by internal courtyards that enhance natural lighting and environmental comfort across all departments.
